A military museum set in the old stable block of Southwick House, the Hampshire house used in D-Day planning. Its rooms each cover a different period, from the early mounted provosts through to today's motorcycle patrols, crime scene investigators and computer experts, with vehicles and uniforms on show. Families with older children who enjoy history, uniforms and vehicles will find plenty to look at, and the museum runs guided and National Curriculum based tours for school groups, plus an interactive activity area for hands-on learning. Visits are arranged in advance because the site is a working Ministry of Defence base, so check the booking details before setting out. The shop sells military themed souvenirs, and the nearby village has pubs for a meal afterwards. Disabled access and a toilet with wheelchair access and baby changing are available, provided the museum is told when a visit is booked.
