Little Woodham is an open-air living history village set in woodland on the Gosport peninsula, recreating an ordinary working village at the time of the English Civil War. Thatched cottages, workshops, an alehouse, a forge and a replica pottery kiln sit around the site, and volunteers in period costume go about everyday tasks such as spinning, weaving, sawing timber, blacksmithing and candle-making. Children can wander between the buildings, ask the villagers questions and watch crafts being demonstrated close up. The site is run by a registered charity and has hosted school visits and home education groups for decades, so it suits families, history-minded children and older pupils alike. Public opening is on selected dates only, so check the calendar before travelling. The site is outdoors, so dressing for the weather is sensible.
