Rockbourne Roman Villa is a Roman courtyard villa that has been excavated and put on public display, run by Hampshire Cultural Trust. Visitors walk among the remains of bath houses, living quarters, farm buildings and workshops, and can see some of the surviving mosaics and part of the underfloor heating system. Information boards guide you around the grounds, and a family friendly trail goes with them. Inside the museum, many of the finds from the estate are arranged by theme, and there is a full skeleton on display. Children can dress up as Roman soldiers, handle replica artefacts and try craft activities, with extra events in the school holidays. The site is largely grass and uneven underfoot, so it suits families who are happy to walk on rough ground. Dogs are welcome in the grounds but not in the museum, and there is space for a picnic.
