Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway is a 200-acre woodland garden on the edge of the New Forest, created by the de Rothschild family and best known for its spring displays of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. For families the draw is the room to roam. Wide tarmac driveways and gravel paths lead through several themed areas, a children's play area sits close to the visitor entrance, and a log trail made by the gardening team gives younger visitors something to follow. A narrow-gauge steam railway runs through the grounds and out towards a dragonfly pond. Seasonal family trails, craft workshops and events run through the year, and the restaurant offers a children's menu. It suits families with children who enjoy being outdoors and want plenty of space between the planting to let off steam.
