The West Lancashire Light Railway is a small heritage railway run by a registered charity and its volunteers. Passengers ride narrow gauge steam-hauled trains on a short run through woodland between the village and the River Douglas, from Becconsall station to Delph station. The collection includes several steam engines and a number of small diesel, petrol and battery locomotives rescued from industrial sites, so children who enjoy trains and machinery have plenty to look at as well as ride. A tea room and a railway-themed gift shop sit at Becconsall, making it a relaxed place to spend an afternoon. The railway hosts family events through the year, including Easter egg hunts, galas and Santa trains, and dogs are welcome on board. It suits younger children and families who want a gentle, low-key steam outing rather than a large attraction.
Seasonal: Sundays and Bank Holidays from around Easter to early November, plus Halloween and December Santa trains.
