Church Farm Ardeley is a not-for-profit farm in the village of Ardeley, just outside Stevenage. Families can book a farm day pass to meet the animals, follow the farm trail, explore the woodland play area and try the bear hunt and farm bingo activity pack. The farm keeps cattle, sheep, goats, alpacas, pigs, poultry and rabbits, and lambs, piglets and calves appear through the seasons. There is a farm shop with a butchery, a farm cafe and an adjoining pub, so lunch fits into the visit. Camping, glamping and wood cabins are also available for an overnight stay. The farm runs a rural care and education programme alongside the visitor side, so the working farm is part of the day.

Field camping runs March to September; woodland camping year-round; glamping May to September (per a third-party camping page). Seasonal activities such as egg collecting, goat walking and a fairy trail are offered.

Questions parents ask

Do we need to book a visit, or can we just turn up?
You need to book a Farm Day Pass online in advance. The farm, shop and café are open 7 days a week, so you can select your preferred date when booking.
Is there a café, or should we bring a picnic?
There is a café on site open daily, serving food and tea. The Jolly Waggoners Pub is also available if you want a more substantial meal.
How long should we allow for a visit?
A typical visit lasts around two hours, which gives time to see the animals, explore the farm and use the play areas.
Will it work if the weather is bad?
The farm has both indoor and outdoor areas, so you can still have a worthwhile visit in poor weather, though some activities may be more limited.
