Facilities

The Scottish Donkey Sanctuary is a rescue and care centre for donkeys, set on a large estate beside the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders. Well over a hundred donkeys live here in small herds across fenced paddocks, many of them rescued and some born on site. Visitors can walk among the animals, meet the donkeys and learn their names from the volunteers, and see the other residents, which include ponies, llamas, goats, pigs, sheep, poultry and a mule. The historic stone stable block round a cobbled yard adds to the setting. It suits families who want a gentle, animal-focused outing with young children and older ones who enjoy farm animals. Visits run as booked sessions on a limited number of days, so it works best as a planned afternoon rather than a drop-in. A small shop sells souvenirs, and the charity welcomes donations and sponsorship of individual donkeys.
Visiting is limited to booked Saturday sessions in the open season; no weekly grid is published.
