Whitrope Heritage Centre sits in two railway carriages beside the old Waverley Route in the Scottish Borders, run by the Waverley Route Heritage Association. Inside, there is a large collection of railway relics from the Waverley Route and other Borders lines, along with old photographs and displays explaining how the railways were built. Visitors can also take a train journey on the Border Union Railway, a preserved section of track running from the site towards Whitrope Tunnel. An adjoining buffet carriage from the 1960s serves tea and refreshments. The centre suits families who enjoy trains and local history, and it also welcomes educational and group visits. Because it is run largely by volunteers, opening is limited and it is best to check ahead before travelling.
