Seamus Heaney HomePlace is a purpose-built arts and literary centre in the village of Bellaghy, where the Nobel prize-winning poet grew up. The main attraction is an interactive exhibition that follows his life from childhood on a local farm through to his later career, using recorded readings of his poems, touchscreen displays, video projections and objects donated by his family. Visitors can see a recreation of his Dublin study and the desk from his first school. Families with older children may enjoy the hands-on creative activities and workshops that run alongside the exhibition, and school groups are welcome on education visits. There is a café on site, a small gift shop and a performance space called The Helicon that hosts theatre, music and poetry events. Outside, a step-free sensory garden in The Back Yard offers a quieter spot to take a break. The building is fully step-free, with a lift between floors and accessible toilets.
