The Giant's Ring is a prehistoric earthwork at Ballynahatty, a few miles south of Belfast city centre. A large circular bank, roughly 200 metres across, encloses open grass with a small chambered tomb of five upright stones and a capstone near the middle. It is looked after by the Department for Communities as a State Care Historic Monument and is free to enter. There is no visitor centre, café or play equipment, so it suits families who enjoy an outdoor walk, a bit of history and room to run around, with older children able to look closely at the stones and the views from the bank. Visitors often combine it with the riverside paths of the Lagan Valley. Children under 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
