No dedicated car park. On-street parking along Acomb Road; visitors may also use the Carlton Tavern car park on Acomb Road about 5-10 minutes' walk away. Do not park on Windmill Rise.

Holgate Windmill is a restored five-sailed tower mill on a small roundabout in a suburb west of York city centre. It is the only working windmill in Yorkshire and still produces traditional stoneground flour, which visitors can buy at the mill. Volunteers guide visitors around the building, and there is a ground-floor display with photographs and a film showing the machinery on each level. Families with children can take part in Mini Millers sessions, which bring hands-on crafts, baking and milling activities, and there is a rat and mice trail to follow through the floors of the mill at no extra charge. Older children can work through a Challenge Badge from home, school or a group. The mill has steep ladders to its upper floors, so the inside suits some visitors more than others, but there is still plenty to see from ground level and outside. Opening is limited to particular days, so check before travelling.
The venue's visiting page says the mill opens throughout the year for open days and special events; an older Traditional Cornmillers Guild page lists Bank Holidays and weekends from Easter to October, so check the current calendar.
