Filey Museum occupies two historic cottages in the old part of the town, one a fisherman's home and the other a farmhouse, so visitors move from cramped period rooms to displays about the coast and countryside. Exhibits cover the knitted fishermen's jumpers known as ganseys, old kitchens and household equipment, Victorian Filey and the seaside holiday years. In the seashore room children can take rubbings of natural forms and learn about the fossils found along this stretch of coastline, which makes it a useful rainy-afternoon stop between beach visits. The museum is run by volunteers and has a small, personal feel, with a friendly team who are happy to explain the collection. It suits families with older children who enjoy local history and hands-on discovery, and it is a short walk from the town centre and the seafront.
