Gauntlet Birds of Prey is an eagle and vulture park on the edge of Knutsford, home to a large collection of raptors and other unusual birds from around the world. Families can watch several flying demonstrations and a vulture talk during the day, and take part in a meet-and-greet session where the birds are shown up close. Visitors cannot handle the birds, as the park is not a petting zoo, but children can meet and feed the goats and watch the meerkats. A wooden fort play area with swings and a sandpit sits beside the café and picnic area, so younger children have space to run about between shows. The park also runs owl and photography events, and it hosts children's parties and school visits. The daily visit is weather-dependent, and the displays move indoors on wet or cold days.
Display programme changes by season (March to September, October, November to March). Some birds stay in enclosures in bad weather. Owls by Moonlight runs in winter by booking.
Questions parents ask
- How long should we allow for a visit?
- A typical visit lasts around 3 hours. The park includes live shows, a vulture talk, and a meet and greet session with the birds, so you can plan accordingly.
- Can we bring a buggy, and will it work with children of different ages?
- Yes, the park is buggy friendly. With animals, flying demonstrations, playground facilities and both indoor and outdoor areas, it's designed to work for babies through to teenagers.
- Is there somewhere to eat, or should we bring a picnic?
- The park has a café and a covered picnic area, so you can buy food on the day or bring your own. The picnic area is also where the kids can play in the adventure playground.
- Will a wet day ruin the plan?
- No. The park has both indoor and outdoor areas, and includes a 90-minute indoor Woodland Experience, so rainy weather need not stop your visit.
