What’s there
- Birthday parties
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
The Children's Zoo sits within the grounds of Walton Hall and Gardens on the edge of Warrington and is aimed squarely at young children and their families. Its paddocks and runs hold alpacas, rescue donkeys, African pygmy goats, potbellied pigs, Herdwick sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs and a noisy flock of peacocks, and there are also native red squirrels in purpose-built enclosures. Visitors can walk round at their own pace, and the zoo is open in most weathers, so it suits a short outing as well as a longer afternoon in the surrounding parkland. Staff run alpaca walks and educational sessions, and the zoo also hosts birthday parties. Dogs are not admitted to the zoo itself, so families with dogs should plan to leave them elsewhere.
Open all year round, in all weathers. Animal adoption and alpaca walks run through the year.
Questions parents ask
- Does the Children's Zoo work in bad weather?
- Yes, it's open in all weathers come rain or shine, and the occasional snow. The animals are always happy to welcome you regardless of the forecast.
- Can I manage the Children's Zoo with a buggy and children of different ages?
- We haven't confirmed whether buggies are practical here. The venue suits all age bands from babies to teens, but you may want to contact them about buggy access before your visit.
- How long should we allow for a visit?
- Typical visit duration isn't recorded, so it depends on how much time you want to spend with each animal. Many families combine it with other attractions at Walton Hall and Gardens, including the gardens, adventure golf, or children's playground.
- Is there somewhere to eat, or should we bring a picnic?
- There is a Heritage Café at Walton Hall and Gardens. However, we haven't confirmed whether it's accessible from the Children's Zoo itself, so you may want to check before visiting.
