Kingfisher Barn is the entry point to the Stour Valley Nature Reserve on the edge of Muscliff in north Bournemouth. Inside the visitor centre there is an interpretation area that explains the river, its wildlife, plants and the area's history, and a classroom that is often used by school groups. Outside, a wildlife garden with a pond, bug hotels, a willow sculpture and a wildflower meadow gives younger visitors plenty to look at and touch. Seasonal pond-dipping drop-in sessions run in spring and summer, and a discovery trail with a wildlife certificate at the end keeps children busy as they walk. A small cafe serves refreshments and ice cream, and the riverside paths are good for an easy family stroll. Entry to the centre is free, and the site suits families who want a relaxed, nature-focused outing close to town.
