Durlston sits on the cliffs a short walk above Swanage and is one of the easiest places on the Dorset coast to spend a relaxed family day outdoors. Wide grassy meadows, woodland paths and clifftop trails lead to seabird colonies and views across Swanage Bay towards the Isle of Wight. The Victorian Durlston Castle serves as the visitor centre, with interactive displays, live wildlife cameras, a fossil room, a four-screen film, a gallery and a shop, and a café with a rooftop terrace. Children can follow the wild play trail with swings and feely boxes, hunt the changing kids' trails around the park, or borrow a woodland explorer rucksack for a half day. Rangers are usually on hand to help, and the reserve is well suited to buggies, with several routes surfaced for them.

Wildlife and events change through the year; the site lists monthly 'what to do' guides and a kids' events programme.
