The Blue Pool Nature Reserve and Tearooms sits within the Furzebrook Estate on the Isle of Purbeck, a short drive from Wareham. The water takes its striking blue-green colour from fine clay particles suspended in a pool that was once a clay pit. Families can follow woodland walking trails, including a circular route around the lake with a fairy and goblin trail that children enjoy searching for, and cross the rope bridge, which the venue describes as the longest in the UK. There is an adventure play area for younger children, and the site has a gift shop and an Art Deco tearoom serving cream teas and light meals. Wildlife spotting is good here, and the reserve has seasonal events through the year. Pushchairs can use the main paths, though some lower waterside routes involve steep steps. Dogs on leads are welcome.
Open all year. Summer hours run longer; seasonal events including Halloween, Christmas workshops, Santa visits and January/February illuminations, some ticketed.
