The Bath & West Showground is a large permanent outdoor site on the edge of Shepton Mallet, used throughout the year for rural shows and events. Its best-known event is the Royal Bath & West Show, held over a late May bank holiday weekend, which brings together livestock, horse and pony competitions, vintage vehicles, countryside demonstrations and live music. Families can spend time in the animal areas, a farm-themed area with hands-on activities, a woodland and countryside arena, a vintage fairground and a dedicated family fun zone. The site is wide and mostly open ground, so comfortable shoes and a plan for breaks suit younger visitors. Because the showground is used for several shows across the year, what is running depends on the date of your visit, so check the event programme before travelling.
