Mendip Plains is a working equestrian centre on a farm estate on the Mendip Hills, run by a local farming family. It has a 90 by 50 metre all-weather outdoor arena, a cross-country course with fences from 60cm to 100cm, show jumps and dressage markers. Most of the year it is busy with schooling sessions, clinics, and competitions in dressage, showjumping, eventing and showing, and it hosts pony club and riding club activity. Families with horse-mad children are the most natural visitors, and the site lists reduced rates for under-14s on cross-country schooling. A small takeaway café, The Jockeys Rest, serves food and drinks on busy competition days. The centre is aimed at riders rather than casual visitors, so younger children are best placed to watch from the side or join in with a pony club or clinic session.
