Magdalen College is one of the larger historic colleges of the University of Oxford, set beside the River Cherwell just east of the city centre. Visitors can walk through the main quadrangles, cloisters and grounds, follow the riverside paths and see the deer that graze in the college's meadows. The Great Tower is one of the best-known landmarks on Oxford's skyline. Families often combine a visit with a stroll along the river or a nearby visit to the Botanic Garden. Some parts of the college are private, as it is a working academic community, so children need to keep to signposted public areas. The college publishes a child admission rate, free entry for under-sevens and a family ticket, and supervised children are welcome. Summer guided tours and a choir evensong in term time add to the visit.
