Pendon Museum is a charity-run museum in the village of Long Wittenham, south of Oxford, built around a large model landscape of the Vale of White Horse as it looked around 1930. The main Vale scene is a detailed miniature of villages, farms, cottages and countryside, with model trains running through it on set days. Further galleries show individual models, modelling methods and railway artefacts, and a smaller layout depicts a Great Western branch line. Visitors go round on a guided tour with an audio guide, and family trails are available to pick up at reception. A junior modelling session and modelling workshops are run for children on some days, and there is a tea room. The museum suits families with children who enjoy trains, model making and historic village scenes, and it is a good indoor option when the weather is poor.
