The Garden Museum sits in the deconsecrated St Mary-at-Lambeth church beside Lambeth Palace, on the bank of the River Thames. Its galleries trace the history of British gardens and gardening from the 16th century to today, with objects from the Tradescant collections, garden-inspired art and temporary exhibitions that change through the year. Families can climb the church tower for views across central London, wander the courtyard garden and stop at the café. The museum runs family activities and hands-on sessions at selected weekends and during school holidays, and it is best suited to older children and adults who enjoy history, plants or art. Visits typically take an hour or two, and the site is compact, so it works well as a half-day stop combined with the South Bank.
