Fort Perch Rock is a sandstone coastal defence battery built in the 1820s to guard the approaches to Liverpool, standing on rocks at the seafront in New Brighton. Today it is run as a museum and events venue. Its permanent displays cover maritime and aviation history, and guest exhibitions change through the year. Visitors can join a guided tour led by the museum curator, which takes in the fort's history and a replica of a Titanic radio room. Families with older children tend to enjoy exploring the thick walls and gun positions, and the fort is also home to World War Two themed escape rooms. A cafe called The Mess occupies the old officers' mess and serves refreshments. The beach and promenade outside make it easy to combine a visit with a walk along the Wirral shoreline.
