What’s there
- Dogs welcome
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
The Smithy Heritage Centre is a small local history museum housed in a restored blacksmith's forge on Kiln Lane in Eccleston. The building was moved stone by stone in the 1930s and rebuilt on a smaller scale, and it still holds original tools from the forge and a wheelwright's shop. Displays cover the heritage of the village, with maps, photographs and documents available for browsing. Hands-on displays, puzzles and costumes make it a good stop for school-age children and teenagers. The centre runs themed exhibitions, including a wartime story told through the eyes of a child, and holds family events such as guided tours during Heritage Open Days. Dogs are welcome inside. Admission is free, and the site is open at weekends in the afternoon or by arrangement, so it suits a short, relaxed visit rather than a full day out.
