The Garstang Museum is the University of Liverpool's archaeology museum, founded in 1904 by John Garstang. Its galleries hold artefacts excavated from Egypt, Sudan and the Near East, with a strong Nubian collection. The best-known piece is a mummy in the Egyptian Afterlife gallery, which tends to hold children's attention. It is a small museum, so a visit suits a short, focused outing and pairs well with the larger World Museum nearby. The museum also welcomes school groups. Some galleries may be closed during building work, so check before travelling.
