Badbury is an area of woodland looked after by the National Trust in Oxfordshire, built around the earthworks of an Iron Age hillfort that dates back to about 600BC. The beech trees and mixed woodland around the car park are best known for their spring bluebells, and there are colour-coded trails through the trees, including a short pink route of about a mile and a bit that visitors can walk with children. Information panels along the way point out the hillfort and an old wartime firing range. Entry to the site is free, and it is open at all times of year during daylight hours. There are no toilets on the site, the ground is uneven in places, and dogs are welcome under close control. Families who enjoy exploring outdoors, spotting wildlife and climbing up to the hilltop views over the Thames flood plain will find it a relaxed day out.
