Facilities

A compact local museum in a Cotswold-stone cottage beside the Corner House on Market Street. Five rooms hold objects and displays on the history of this market town, from Stone Age arrowheads and the 1256 market charter to the royal forest of Wychwood, the glove-making trade and farming. Children tend to enjoy the blacksmith's forge display, the penny-farthing bicycle, old shop and inn signs, wartime gas masks and Victorian costumes, while the photograph collection shows townspeople at work and play. Exhibitions change through the year, so families visiting on different days may see something new. It is a quiet, short visit that suits a family pairing a browse with a walk around the town. The museum is run entirely by volunteers and is a registered charity.
Open April to end of October on the visit page; homepage says closed until Easter 2027.
