Banbury Museum & Gallery sits beside the Oxford Canal in the town centre and tells the story of Banbury and the surrounding area. The galleries cover the Civil War, the town's plush manufacturing past, its Victorian market-town life and costume from the 17th century to the present day, with a separate waterways display about the canal and the nearby Tooley's Boatyard. Families can browse at their own pace, and the museum runs children's crafts and activities through the school holidays plus sessions for under-fives during term time. A changing programme of temporary exhibitions in the Pye Gallery is ticketed separately. There is a café on site, a museum shop selling local art and souvenirs, and a reference library for family history research.
