The Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration is the UK's public centre dedicated to the art of illustration, housed in the restored New River Head waterworks in Clerkenwell. It is founded by the illustrator Quentin Blake and holds a changing programme of exhibitions covering picture books, posters, animation, cartoons and more, alongside original drawings from his own archive. Families can wander the free parts of the site, which include a public illustration library that suits younger children, newly planted gardens and public artworks, and a cafe with a terrace. Ticketed galleries host the temporary exhibitions, and the centre runs all-age illustration activities and workshops alongside them. It is a calm, indoor-and-outdoor option for a family day in central London, best suited to children who enjoy drawing, picture books and looking closely at artwork.
