MathsWorld is an interactive discovery centre for mathematics, set in a railway arch on the South Bank near Southwark and Blackfriars stations. Its exhibits are built to be touched and tried rather than read: visitors can step inside a giant soap bubble, look through a kaleidoscope, cut shapes with a laser, work through code-breaking puzzles and play pool on an elliptical table. Younger children tend to gravitate to the shape and symmetry exhibits, while older children and teenagers enjoy the codebreaking and artificial intelligence activities. Mathematical background is printed on cards beside many exhibits for adults and older pupils. The centre runs a programme of events and workshops alongside its exhibits and is a regular stop for school groups, so weekday mornings can be quieter. It suits families looking for a rainy-day indoor visit that feels educational without feeling like a lesson.
