The Faraday Museum sits inside the Royal Institution, the London home of scientific discovery and lectures since 1799. Its lower ground floor shows real apparatus used in famous experiments, including the first electrical transformer and the tube that explained why the sky is blue, alongside a recreation of Michael Faraday's magnetic laboratory as it looked in the 1850s. Across from it, a modern nanotechnology lab shows how far the subject has come. Upstairs and on the ground floor, displays cover the people behind the institution, from Humphry Davy and Ada Lovelace to a run of Nobel Prize winners, plus props and film clips from famous lectures. A short chemical elements game tests reaction times. Older children and curious teenagers will get the most from it, and the museum is free to enter, though some events charge. It suits a rainy afternoon in central London.
