Facilities

The Viktor Wynd Museum is a small, crowded cabinet of curiosities on Mare Street in Hackney, run by the Last Tuesday Society. Its rooms hold natural history oddities such as taxidermy, dodo bones and a giant anteater skeleton, alongside outsider and surrealist art, including work by Leonora Carrington and Austin Osman Spare. Visitors find a lot to look at in a short stay, and the displays are arranged to provoke conversation about collecting and the strange. The museum is best suited to older children and teenagers who enjoy the macabre and unusual, and some items are not suited to younger or easily unsettled visitors. Under-18s are only let in with a parent or guardian during the early part of the evening. The museum sits beside a bar and absinthe parlour, and it hosts exhibitions and talks through the year. Because the rooms are tight, booking ahead is sensible.
