A small museum housed in the medieval St John's Gate in Clerkenwell, north London, covering more than 900 years of the Order of St John, from its origins caring for sick pilgrims to the modern first aid work of St John Ambulance. The ground-floor galleries are free to enter and suit families with children who enjoy history, costume and hands-on activity. The museum runs free family trails, colouring and activity sheets, and dressing-up clothes, and during school holidays it hosts drop-in craft and storytelling sessions inspired by its collections. Regular sensory-friendly workshops for autistic and neurodiverse families and monthly sessions for under-fives are also held. Guided tours reach the historic upstairs rooms, the Priory Church and the crypt, which can only be seen on a tour. The Cloister Garden offers a quiet green space for a break.
