Handel Hendrix House is a museum made up of two neighbouring homes on Brook Street in Mayfair. Handel's restored Georgian house shows the rooms where he composed and died, with a replica organ and harpsichord to look at and music playing on the stairs. Next door, the top-floor flat where Jimi Hendrix lived in 1968 and 1969 has a permanent exhibition on 1960s London, with his guitar and story boards about his life and influences. The mix of eighteenth-century rooms and rock history gives older children and teenagers something to talk about, and the volunteers in the rooms are happy to explain objects and answer questions. Visits are self-paced and usually take an hour or two. Food is not allowed inside, though bottled water is, so it suits a short, focused outing rather than a long day. The house also runs concerts and events through the year.
