The Grant Museum of Zoology is a small natural history museum in the Rockefeller Building at University College London, in Bloomsbury. Its galleries hold around 100,000 zoological specimens, from skeletons and mounted animals to jars of creatures preserved in fluid, and many of the species on show are now rare or extinct. Highlights include a quagga skeleton, a giant deer skull with antlers and a back-lit micrarium of microscope slides. Visitors can follow a 30-minute audio tour with ten stops, or simply wander the cases at their own pace. The museum is compact, so it suits a short, curious visit rather than a full day out. There is no café on site, so families should plan to eat nearby, though bottled water and baby bottles are allowed in the galleries.
