Facilities

The Hull Fishing Heritage Centre is run by a registered charity of volunteers, many of them former trawlermen, and tells the story of Hull's deep-sea fishing industry and the Hessle Road community that grew up around the docks. Inside, visitors find hand-built model trawlers, ship's bells and navigation equipment, old photographs, paintings and memorabilia from different periods of the fleet. The displays suit older children who are curious about how people lived and worked, and the volunteers are happy to talk through the exhibits. The centre is small, so a visit is quick and easy to fit around a walk along Hessle Road. Schools can book a volunteer presentation, and the charity also lends a treasure chest of maritime objects to primary schools for use with children aged five to sixteen. The centre sits at the crossroads of the Boulevard and Hessle Road, close to memorial boards that honour lost trawlers and crews.
