Orton Mere

Orton Mere is a peaceful lakeside nature reserve on the River Nene at the eastern end of Nene Park, Peterborough, managed by Nene Park Trust. Linking Ferry Meadows with Thorpe Meadows, it offers lakes, wide open green spaces and a beautiful tree-lined avenue - a welcoming alternative gateway into the Park and an ideal spot for relaxed recreation, gentle family walks, bird watching and enjoying the water and surrounding scenery. Just to the east, Woodston Reach provides a quieter, more secluded woodland experience, perfect for escaping the busier paths, with the carved oak 'Woodston Rest' bench set among ash and hawthorn trees. Highlights for families include the Nene Valley Railway heritage station at Orton Mere, where you can step aboard a steam or diesel train and enjoy scenic views along the route, and vibrant graffiti artwork in the underpass towards Thorpe Meadows. Free entry to the park; paid parking at the Orton Mere car park. There is no cafe or toilets on site - the nearest facilities are a 1.7km walk to Thorpe Meadows.
