Long Melford Country Park (also known as Melford Country Park) is a free, open-access country park on the edge of Long Melford in Suffolk, beside the River Stour. Covering over 8 hectares of grassland, woodland and lakes formed from Second World War gravel excavations, it is a lovely spot for families to run around, walk, cycle and picnic.
The park has plenty of open space for younger children to play, plus the 2-kilometre Melford Walk which follows a former railway line through a wooded valley with views over the village. Riverside paths along the River Stour run along the park's western edge, and several circular walks (the Black Lion Walk, Southern Loop and Nethergate Walk) start from the park. The lakes are a wildlife habitat, home to swans and other water birds.
Facilities include an onsite car park and public toilets (open daily 08:00-17:00). Dogs are welcome and should be kept under control. The park is pushchair and wheelchair friendly in most open areas, though some paths have inclines, cambers or steps. Pack a picnic and enjoy the open grassland - it is an ideal spot for a family lunch.
