Lowestoft Maritime Museum sits in Sparrow's Nest Gardens by the North Sea and tells the story of Lowestoft's fishing and maritime heritage. Families can follow a children's maritime identification trail, try on sailor or pirate hats, tackle jigsaws and children's books, and explore hands-on displays, an extensive scale-model boat collection, a reconstructed wheelhouse with working VHF radio, and a small cinema showing archive film footage. Set in a restored 1828 cottage with extensions, the volunteer-run museum covers Lowestoft's fishing village past, shipbuilding on Lake Lothing, lifeboats and lighthouses, the invention of the hovercraft (including Christopher Cockerell's workshop), Lowestoft at war and a display dedicated to local VC hero Tom Crisp. Allow 1.5 to 3 hours.
Open for the Summer season until Saturday 31st October 2026; museum closes over the winter season (reopens late April).
