Inveraray Castle is the fairytale home of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, standing on the shores of Loch Fyne since the 1400s. The present castle, begun in 1746, blends baroque, Palladian and Gothic styles, and its iconic silhouette of conical-roofed towers was added after the fire of 1877. Families can tour three floors of magnificent state rooms - including the Armoury Hall, whose walls are lined with swords and muskets, the Saloon, the Dining Room and the Victorian Room - and discover centuries of Campbell family and Scottish history along the way.

The beautiful formal gardens and landscaped grounds are ideal for letting children stretch their legs, and the estate's woodland walks and wider grounds are generally open to walkers 365 days a year. Dogs are welcome on leads across the estate, the woodland walks and the castle fosse (including the tearoom), though not inside the castle, the formal gardens or the gift shop.

After your tour, the award-winning Castle Tearoom serves freshly prepared refreshments, and the Gift Shop is stocked with souvenirs, books and Clan Campbell merchandise. Under-5s go free, family tickets (two adults and three children) are available, and Blue Badge holders plus one carer/assistant receive free entry. Note that the castle tour covers three floors and stairs cannot be avoided, but video tours of the basement and first floor can be pre-booked. Parking costs £4.00 per car (payable by card at the machine or via the JustPark app). The castle and gardens are open Thursday to Monday throughout the season (26 March - 26 October 2026), closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and pre-booking tickets online is recommended.
