Hop aboard Britain's most southerly heritage railway for a scenic ride through the Cornish countryside near Helston. The Helston Railway re-opens a section of the former Great Western Railway branch line to Helston, running vintage steam and diesel trains with period carriages between Prospidnick and Truthall Halt, with a request stop at Trevarno along the way. Trains run on Thursdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from April to October, plus selected Wednesdays in the summer holidays and event days such as Back to the 40s, the Heritage Transport Weekend and Halloween evening trains. Under-5s ride free, dogs are welcome on the train, and the Cornish Carriages buffet and restaurant serves breakfasts, lunches and teas on running days. The car park at Prospidnick is free, and the railway is run entirely by volunteers.
Closed January, March and November. Open Thursdays and Sundays April-October plus Bank Holidays, with extra days: February half-term, Wednesdays from late July to early September, Halloween evening trains 28-29 Oct, and Santa Specials / Night Train in December (booking essential).
