Clifford's Tower is the largest surviving part of York Castle, a medieval fortress at the heart of the city. At the base of the mound, a tactile map orients visitors to the castle and city, with three resting places to pause during the steep climb. Inside the tower, fictional historic characters tell its stories — from the Harrying of the North and the 1190 anti-Jewish pogrom to the fire of 1684. The timber roof platform at the top gives access to 360-degree views over York and beyond. In summer, extended evening opening allows visitors to watch the sunset from the tower.
