A working museum of Victorian steam engineering centred on four beam engines built by Gimson of Leicester in 1885. The station runs two of five Thompson boilers from 1936–37 to power the engines, a steam-driven workshop and forge, and a 1930s dynamo house with an early Crompton dynamo. Visitors can tour the site on steaming days or view the engines statically on Saturdays and Thursdays; the venue also houses an archive database of over 6,000 scanned images and documents about Claymills and Burton upon Trent.
