Tintagel Castle stands partly on the mainland and partly on a rugged island connected by a footbridge, with atmospheric medieval ruins to explore. The 5th to 7th century fortress inspired legends of King Arthur; you can visit a life-sized sculpture of Gallos on the island, and when the tide's out, explore the small sandy beach and Merlin's Cave. There's an island garden, a medieval gateway, early medieval buildings to see, and a World Builder trail where children can build their own fort. The Beach Café serves refreshments.
