Baron's Haugh is a thriving RSPB community nature reserve in Motherwell, sitting on the banks of the River Clyde. Spend time in one of the four wetland hides spotting ducks, swans and other waterbirds, or wander through the woods looking for woodpeckers and nuthatches - if you're lucky you may even see a kingfisher or otter on the river. Two signposted circular trails (0.5 mile and 2 miles, about 2-3 hours) take you through pools, reedbeds, scrub and woodland, making it a great free spot for families to explore nature.
