Gilfach is a spectacular nature reserve tucked away in the Marteg Valley in the heart of rural Mid Wales. For centuries a working hill farm, it now offers way-marked trails through 166 hectares of grassland, woodland, wetlands, ponds, and heathland. Home to pied flycatchers, red kites, dippers, redstarts, leaping salmon, and over a quarter of all lichen species found in Wales. The Byre visitor centre offers refreshments and information. Features 55 breeding birds, 6 species of bat, and 413 species of lichen.

Best time to visit April to November. Reserve open all year round, Byre visitor centre with refreshments and disabled toilet.
