Silent Valley Mountain Park is a beautiful reservoir and mountain park set in the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel, County Down. Owned and maintained by Northern Ireland Water, the park offers walking trails of varying lengths, a visitor centre with exhibits on the area's industrial heritage, a cafe, and a red kite viewing area. The Silent Valley Story Trail App provides an interactive way to explore. The reservoir, built between 1923 and 1933, supplies water to much of County Down and Belfast. The park features a 9-mile Mourne Wall and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Longer summer day (to 6.30pm May-September) and a short winter one (to 4pm October-April). The reservoir sits high in the Mournes, so weather closes in fast and the walking routes vary a lot in difficulty - check conditions before setting out with children.
