Murlough Nature Reserve is a stunning 697-acre dune heathland on the coast of County Down, near Newcastle. Managed by the National Trust since 1967, it was Ireland's first nature reserve. The reserve features a 6,000-year-old sand dune system with a network of paths and boardwalks through the dunes, offering spectacular views of Slieve Donard and the Mourne Mountains. Murlough Beach, a Blue Flag shingle beach stretching four miles along Dundrum Bay, lies on the reserve's edge. Wildlife includes grey and common seals, meadow pipits, skylarks, stonechats, and rare butterflies such as the marsh fritillary.
