Wallington is a magnificent National Trust estate set in 13,500 acres of rolling Northumberland countryside, just 20 miles northwest of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The estate offers a wonderful family day out with something for everyone.
Explore the historic house, home to the unconventional Trevelyan family, featuring pre-Raphaelite paintings, nationally important book and ceramics collections, and a cosy Reading Room with a children's book nook.
Outside, the gardens are a delight — discover the secret walled garden through Neptune's Gate, past the Mary Pool and colourful herbaceous borders. Wander through woodlands, around the lake, and along the riverwalk.
Children will love the four outdoor play parks: the play fort with rope bridge and turrets, the adventure playground with a zip line, the play train and station platform, and the Little Acorns play space with giant tree trunk steps and a willow tunnel.
The Dragon cycle trail is a safe, traffic-free family cycling route open all year round, with bike hire available seasonally.
Refuel at the cosy Clocktower Café, browse the gift shop, bookshop, and plant centre. With wellbeing woodland, wildlife spotting, and far-reaching views, Wallington is a perfect family destination in every season.
