Kielder Water & Forest Park is England's largest forest park, offering families a huge variety of outdoor activities. The 26-mile Lakeside Way circles Kielder Water and is perfect for walking, cycling, and pushchairs. The forest features one of England's largest mountain bike trail networks with over 100 miles of trails, suitable for all abilities with bike hire available from Team Cycles at Kielder Castle. Family attractions include the Minotaur Maze, the Room on the Broom interactive family trail, and the Kielder Observatory for stargazing in Europe's largest Dark Sky Park. Wildlife highlights include Northumberland's only breeding osprey population (viewed via live camera April-August) and England's largest red squirrel population. The forest also features multiple walking trails, picnic areas, the Kielder Salmon Centre, and play areas.
Kielder Castle visitor centre is closed for redevelopment (reopening summer 2026). Forest Drive, trails, bike shop (Team Cycles, open 9am-5pm) and car parks remain open as usual. Kielder Water and Forest Park is open year-round.
